چکیده
Density-functional theory within a Berry-phase formulation of the dynamical polarization is used to determine second-order susceptibility $\chi^{(2)}$ lithium niobate (LiNbO$_3$). Defect trapped polarons and bipolarons are found strongly enhance nonlinear material, in particular if localized at Nb$_\mathrm{V}$-V$_{\mathrm{Li}}$ defect pairs. This essentially consequence polaronic excitation resulting relaxation-induced gap states. The occupation these levels leads enhanced coefficients allows for spatial transient modification second-harmonic generation macroscopic samples.

Nonlinear self-phase matching of optical second harmonic generation in lithium niobate
We show that the nonlinear index perturbation due to light-induced photovoltaic space-charge field in LiNbO3 can give rise to self-phase matching of second harmonic generation. Increase of the conversion efficiency is accompanied by formation of stationary and nonstationary patterns in the spatial structure of the generated second harmonic. The space-charge field can be induced either by the in...
متن کاملAmplitude squeezing by means of quasi-phase-matched second-harmonic generation in a lithium niobate waveguide.
We demonstrate that traveling-wave second-harmonic generation produces amplitude-squeezed light at both the fundamental and the harmonic frequencies. Quasi-phase-matched second-harmonic conversion efficiencies approaching 60% were obtained in a 26-mm-long single-mode LiNbO(3) waveguide with pulses from a mode-locked laser at 1.53 microm. The amplitude noise of the transmitted fundamental field ...
متن کاملSimultaneous stimulated Raman scattering second harmonic generation in periodically poled lithium niobate
Simultaneous stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) and second harmonic generation (SHG) are demonstrated in periodically poled lithium niobate (PPLN). Using a simple single-pass geometry, conversion efficiencies of up to 12% and 19% were observed for the SRS and SHG processes respectively. By changing the PPLN period interacting with the photonic crystal fibre based pump source and varying the PPLN...
متن کاملSecond-harmonic generation in periodically-poled thin film lithium niobate wafer-bonded on silicon.
Second-order optical nonlinear effects (second-harmonic and sum-frequency generation) are demonstrated in the telecommunication band by periodic poling of thin films of lithium niobate wafer-bonded on silicon substrates and rib-loaded with silicon nitride channels to attain ridge waveguide with cross-sections of ~2 µm2. A nonlinear conversion of 8% is obtained with a pulsed input in ...
متن کاملSecond-harmonic generation in lithium niobate nanowires for local fluorescence excitation.
We study the nonlinear optical properties of lithium niobate (LiNbO(3)) nanowires (NWs) fabricated by a top-down ion beam enhanced etching method. First, we demonstrate generation and propagation of the second-harmonic (SH) light in LiNbO(3) NWs of typical rectangular cross-sections of 400 x 600 nm(2) and length from 10 to 50 μm. Then, we show local fluorescent excitation of 4',6-diamidino-2-ph...
